Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time - Review
Hello, hello! It's the start of another week, which means it's time to get another blog post out there for all you readers! Today, I thought I'd give just a quick, to-the-point review on the new Crash Bandicoot installment, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.
I have played a lot of different platformers in my time, including the original and remastered versions of the Crash Bandicoot games and this one probably frustrates me the most. Don't get me wrong, the game itself is fantastic, with the inclusions of new masks which give you new powers, but I find myself rage quitting this game more than any other game in recent memory. The new powers are a great new addition to the game, being able to change different dimensions, use dark matter power, be able to slow down time and flip gravity, it allows for challenging new situations that can take some time getting used to. And while these new powers can be annoying at first, once you get used to them they can become quite fun, especially the dark matter power, that allows for super jumps and destroys most things in your path. But I can't help feeling like some of the new obstacles and challenges are just a little bit too challenging. I understand that now, Crash Bandicoot is no longer considered a kids game, but at it's core it still is, and a lot of players who get this new installment are people like myself who want the nostalgia. I don't want to have spend hours on hours trying to get all the boxes in one level, while having to travel on a moving platform, changing dimensions as I go and trying to avoid the one hit kill nitro boxes. It takes the fun out of it. I want to be able to get a vast majority of them on the first run and then only have to spend maybe 20 minutes having to learn the new skills in order to get the rest. Dying over and over again on the first initial run, to me, isn't a good recipe to keep new players around and even existing fans. It just feels like you either need to play hours on end to master just one level or you don't bother trying to get the extra things and be left feeling like you couldn't bother less about playing the actual game for fun and only playing it to finish so you don't have to play it again.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is a great reboot in hope to bring in the more younger players and bring back the older ones, with the new storyline and powers. The game overall is fun to play, like it always has been, but for completionists the game will quickly become irritating and no longer fun. If you want to check it out for yourself, you can buy it for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
